πŸ“š Offset Guide & Reference

What is Wheel Offset?

Wheel offset (ET) is the distance from the wheel's mounting surface to its centerline, measured in millimeters. It determines how far in or out the wheel sits relative to the hub.

  • Positive offset: Mounting surface closer to outside
  • Zero offset: Mounting surface at centerline
  • Negative offset: Mounting surface closer to inside

Backspacing vs Offset

Backspacing: Distance from mounting surface to inner wheel edge.

Formula: Backspacing = (Wheel Width Γ· 2) + Offset

Example: 8" wheel with ET35 offset

Backspacing = (8" Γ· 2) + 35mm = 4" + 1.38" = 5.38"

Safety Considerations

  • Check brake clearance with lower offset wheels
  • Ensure suspension component clearance
  • Verify fender clearance at full lock
  • Consider load rating changes
  • Professional installation recommended
